South Florida Community College’s Dental Hygiene Program
South Florida community college offers dental hygiene program in its campus. This program can nurture students need to meet the challenges of our fast paced and rapidly changing society. The Dental Hygiene program from South Florida Community College maintains full accreditation by the American Dental Association Council on Dental Accreditation.
You will learn Infection Control, Diagnostic X rays, Keeping Safe with Sterile Techniques, Caring For others by giving good Patient treatment. Basically, dental hygiene requires teamwork, good communication skills, good eye-hand co-ordination, enjoy helping others, being open to corporal and cultural differences and have good employment skills.
It’s a five term program which includes class room lessons as well as hands of practices. Students provide comprehensive preventive oral health care for people from the community. After the full completion of the program, the graduates are awarded an Associate of applied science degree. Along with the course, they can also participate in community service, giving oral health presentation to senior citizens and school children.
It’s a field that’s constantly evolving and changing. To keep it professional up-to-date with the latest information, the American Dental Hygienists Association started a student member program called SADHA. Dental Hygiene professions anywhere in the nation can be the members of the SADHA. SADHA provides many features like professional networking, where any member can interact with other hygienists (member) anywhere in the nation and consult them regarding their professional and personal problem.
The staffs of college are very supportive and would help students with the studies, practices, professional and personal problems. Students are required to attend national hygiene board exam, and state board exam to become licensed dental hygienist. Admission to the dental hygiene program is competitive and limited to 12 students. Prospective students should complete the following 6 pre-requisite course with a C or a better grade: Anatomy & physiology I, Anatomy & physiology II, Micro-biology, General Chemistry, College Algebra and freshman English. Students also have to observe a practicing Dental hygienist for 40 hrs.
